PURIM (FEAST OF LOTS)
Time & Location
About the Event
Purim is one of the most festive and joyous holidays on the Jewish calendar. The book of Esther commands that it be celebrated on the 14th and 15th days of Adar (February or March) and was to be a time of "feasting and joy, of sending presents to one another and gifts to the poor" (Esther 9:22).
Purim commemorates the day Esther, Queen of Persia, saved the Jewish people from execution by Haman, the advisor to the Persian king. Esther bravely exposed her previously hidden Jewish heritage to her husband the king and asked him to save her people, which he did.
